Anders Tomlinson
Photographer, artist, climatologists, ecologist.
As a boy Anders Tomlinson would step out of his family’s driveway in California and stand on “El Camino Real,” the legendary “royal road” which carried gold and silver from California and northern Mexico to Mexico City. In 1983 he first visited Álamos to document this portion of “El Camino Real,”, and he continued his visits for the next 40+ years—compiling a wealth of still images and videos. His work is ongoing, and he is now concentrating his effort to research, through photography, the effects of climate change on Álamos and Sonora.
His website (www.Alamos-Sonora-Mexico.com) contains still images, videos, and historical information on our Pueblo Mágico. Be sure to click on the videos—some quite recent—which provide short glimpses into Álamos life and culture. The captions to his photograph carefully detail the people and the locations, and through the photos, videos, and journals he shares his love of our community.

Dr. Juan Carlos Holguín Balderrama
Cronista of Álamos since 2013
Juan Carlos Holguín Balderrama serves as President of the Sonoran Society of History and of the Advisory Council for the Historic Zone of Hermosillo. Born in Álamos, he has been the city's historian since 2013 and in 2017 he established the Facebook page "Alamos a Través de los Siglos" which provides historic photos and information on Álamos history. After clicking the link to his page, one can search for specific subjects related to Álamos.
Juan Carlos holds a Ph.D. in Modern and Contemporary History from the Dr. José María Luis Mora Research Institute, a Master’s degree in Social Sciences—specializing in Historical Studies of Region and Border—from El Colegio de Sonora, and a Bachelor’s degree in International Trade from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM). He has participated as a speaker in various forums and venues, both domestic and international, and is the author of the book Festejar y construir: Fiestas cívicas e inauguración de obra pública en Álamos durante el porfiriato, 1892-1910.
In addition to his work in Hermosillo, Juan Carlos is involved with numerous Álamos projects and worked with the History Association in creating the "Galaría de Presidentes" in Álamos city hall.

Enrique Yescas
Creator of "Imágenes de Sonora," "Sonora Es," and "Explora Sonora"
Enrique Yescas travels across Sonora in his Hummer to photograph and publicize the beauty and cultural heritage of his native state. Beginning with the monthly magazine "Imágenes de Sonora" in 1984, Yescas has spent a career promoting Sonora to residents and visitors through his books and magazines, photographing and writing about its landscape and historic villages. He sings as he drives along, his tenor voice interpreting the classic melodies of Mexico.
Although he considers himself more a writer than a photographer, Yescas' work behind the camera has been displayed in numerous exhibitions—including documenting Arizona for the Through Each Others Eyes photo nonprofit. His website addresses for "Sonora Es" and "Explora Sonora" are listed below.

Promotes reasearch related to history
The Facebook page of the Socidad Sonorense de Historia has information relating to conferences and special events of the organization, and in addition publishes videos on the history of Sonora. Located in el Centro in Hermosillo at Rosales 123, the Society’s office can be reached by telephone at 52 662 217-1064 or by e-mail at sshac@hotmail.com.

Sonora Mágica y Desconocida

Based in Cananea and Magdalena, this Facebook page was founded by
Francisco Eloy Bustamante and contains journals, essays, and biographies related to the recent and past history of Sonora. While the"Sonora Mágica y Desconocida" name is no longer on the Facebook page, the content appears to be the same—covering a vast range of topic related to the northern Sonora communities of Santa Ana, Magdalena, and Cananea.

Southwest Mission Research Center
journals, essays, and videos of Sonora
Founded in 1965, this non-profit research center is committed to the cause of supporting Spanish Borderlands research and education. Funding is provided by individual membership and through historical excursions to the missions of northern Sonora—primarily the missions founded by Father Eusebio Kino. The organization publishes a magazine andhas finally supported reconstruction projects for the Cocóspera and San Ignacio missions.
